How to choose artificial grass for an El Paso yard

Three specs decide whether your turf looks great for a decade or flat by next summer. Here's what they mean in plain English.

Pile height

The length of the blades. Around 1.5–2 inches looks like a real mowed lawn and holds up to foot traffic. Shorter piles suit putting greens and pet runs; taller piles look lush but mat faster in high-traffic areas.

Face weight & UV rating

Face weight is how much fiber is stitched per square yard — heavier means denser and more durable. In El Paso's sun, always choose turf with UV-stabilized fibers so the green doesn't fade to blue.

Drainage backing

Perforated or fully permeable backing lets monsoon rain — and pet urine — pass straight through to the base. For dog yards and low spots, drainage is the spec that matters most.

What does artificial grass cost in El Paso?

Honest answer: it depends on three things — the turf style you pick, your square footage, and what goes under it. Economy turf costs less per square foot but won't hold up like a dense, UV-rated product. Premium pet and putting-green styles cost more and earn it.

What we won't do is throw a fake "starting at" number at you. Measure your space, call us, and you'll get a real quote — turf, base, and delivery included — usually within the hour. Contractors get trade pricing on repeat orders.

Why El Paso yards are switching to turf

Lower water bills

A natural lawn in El Paso needs constant irrigation from May through September. Turf needs none — most homeowners see the water savings immediately.

Green through 100° summers

Bermuda burns, fescue fries. Quality UV-rated turf stays green through the hottest July on record and never goes brown in winter.

Built for pets & kids

Drainage-backed turf with the right infill rinses clean, controls odor, and doesn't turn into a mud pit after a monsoon storm.

Types of artificial grass we stock

Not every yard needs the same turf. Here's what each style is built for, so you buy the right one the first time.

Landscape turf

The all-purpose lawn look — around 1.5–2 in pile with a natural blend of green and tan thatch. Best for front yards, side yards, and anywhere you want it to read as real grass.

Pet turf

Shorter, denser blades over a fully permeable backing so urine drains straight through. Pair it with antimicrobial infill to keep dog runs odor-free.

Putting green turf

Very short, stiff nylon fibers with a tight roll. Perfect for backyard practice greens, chipping areas, and playroom-style putting strips.

Play & shade turf

Softer face fiber with padding options underneath for playsets and daycares, plus shade-tolerant blends for covered patios and dog kennels.

How artificial grass is installed in El Paso

This is the same sequence our contractors follow. Rent every machine on this list from us in one trip.

  1. 1

    Strip the old lawn

Cut and roll out existing grass with a sod cutter to about 3–4 inches deep. Remove roots and haul the spoil off in a dump trailer.

Rent here: Sod cutter + dump trailer

  2. 2

    Grade and shape the pad

Slope the pad away from the house at roughly a quarter inch per foot so monsoon rain drains instead of pooling. A mini skid steer moves and levels base fast.

  3. 3

    Set the border

Bender board, steel edging, or a concrete ribbon holds the turf edge tight and keeps base rock from migrating into flowerbeds.

  4. 4

    Lay and compact base rock

Spread 3–4 inches of crushed base (we stock it), wet it lightly, and compact in lifts with a plate compactor until it's hard underfoot.

    Rent here: Plate compactor

  5. 5

Roll out and relax the turf

Lay the turf in the sun for 30 minutes to let it settle, keep all rolls running the same blade direction, then trim to the border.

  6. 6

    Seam and secure

Join panels with seam tape and adhesive, then nail or staple the perimeter every 4–6 inches so edges never lift in the wind.

  7. 7

    Infill and broom

Spread silica or antimicrobial infill and brush it in with a power broom. This stands the blades up, protects the backing, and is what makes turf look real.

    Rent here: STIHL power broom

Artificial grass questions, answered

How much does artificial grass cost in El Paso?

Most residential artificial grass in El Paso runs from budget-friendly economy turf up to premium pet and putting-green styles, priced by the square foot. Your total depends on the turf style, square footage, base material, and delivery. Call (915) 895-7400 with your measurements and we'll give you an exact quote — usually within the hour.

Is artificial turf worth it in El Paso's climate?

For most El Paso yards, yes. Turf needs no watering in a city where summer water bills spike, it stays green through 100°+ heat, and it never goes dormant in winter. Quality turf with good drainage handles monsoon downpours and full sun for years.

Can I buy turf cut to the exact size of my yard?

Yes. We cut our EquipScape-branded rolls to custom widths in-house on our AccuCutter machine, so you only pay for what you need and get clean, straight edges that seam tightly.

Do you offer turf for dogs and pets?

Yes. We stock pet-friendly turf with drainage backing that lets urine pass through, plus infill options that control odor. Tell us about your pets when you request a quote.

Do you deliver artificial grass in El Paso?

Yes. We deliver turf, base rock, and installation materials across El Paso, Horizon City, Socorro, Canutillo, and the surrounding Borderland. Same-day pickup at our Montana Ave yard is also available.

Do you install artificial turf, or just sell it?

We supply the turf, base, and materials — and we rent every machine an install needs (sod cutter, plate compactor, power broom). Many customers DIY with our guidance, and local installers buy from us at contractor pricing. Ask us what your project needs.
